[EN] Minnie's "Cruel Summer"

 This is mostly a translation of an old post I wrote on April 6th 2019 (the last day of "I MADE" promotion) but the story is timeless. I also add a brand new part as Miyeon and Minnie kept telling us something new every time they're asked about how they first met in the last one year.
 Alrighty then. This is a real-life fanfiction. Let me tell you how Miyeon came in Minnie's life like a wrecking ball (singing). Who has unconditionally changed Minnie's heart just by skipping breakfast and breathing?
 (G)I-DLE made their first appearance on NCT Night Night radio when they debuted less than a month. Being asked about the member who gave off the strongest first impression, Miyeon chose Minnie because "at that time, she wore shorts; her legs were long". She didn't even know that Minnie's a foreigner. For Minnie, she had known a new same-aged friend was on the way. She set her heart to get close with Miyeon even before they learnt each other's name.
 
"Ah! A new friend!"
"Oh, her legs are long."
 We couldn't know nothing more until Christmas, when (G)I-DLE were about to claim serveral Best Rookies awards, Minnie revealed she had known Miyeon long before she's allowed to.
"Miyeon's audition, I saw it from outside. Miyeon was playing a guitar. I was practicing and peeked through the door. Who can she be? She's so good. Will she pass the test? Now that she's here, urgh, why is she here?"
This is what it's like when Miyeon plays a guitar singing an English song.
 Don't you find it cute and miraculous that Minnie peeked through the door, which means she wasn't supposed to see Miyeon's face, to hear Miyeon's voice so early. She should have gone back to her training class as soon as possible but something about that guitar girl made her stay. She could tell us about that on NCT Night Night radio but not until the end of the year, Miyeon had no idea there was a girl who secretly watched her audition carefully and prayed for her to stay a year ago.
 See how Miyeon couldn't take it seriously when Minnie was trying to get over her shyness. I bet Minnie is the one who's more grateful for their friendship but since Miyeon's such a cracked-head, she didn't expect Miyeon to understand how much it means to her.
 March 25th 2019, MiMin did V LIVE together for the first time. (I have to note the date clearly. I couldn't believe that one day I happened to see my favorite couple side by side in half an hour. Jeez... Now it'll be a question mark if we don't see them V LIVE together in a while.)
"Miyeon's my very first same-aged friend. During trainee days, I was always the oldest one. I didn't have any same-aged friend. Eventually Miyeon came."
 Can you see how Minnie's always being soft and delighted talking about the day she couldn't help her curiosity and longing for having Miyeon around: "I remember the day we greeted in the piano room. When I was told my first friend of my age was coming, I thought: 'Really? My first friend?! Amazing!' But Miyeon was like: 'Hello, uhm, hello..."
 Feel like Minnie can talk about that amazing day forevermore: "Wow! She's so pretty!" "She looked like a really cool dancer back then!" - Her voice is full of excitement. - "When I saw Miyeon, I could only think of Beyeoncé for real!" Why does Minnie love to talk about such memories on Miyeon's very first weekly test so much? Why does she hold on to the fact Miyeon represented Beyoncé while Miyeon had shown that she's more than just Miyeoncé? "Honestly, I was so nervous because I didn't make friends for long. I'm afraid I'll mess it up. Luckily we got close faster than we thought."
 It doesn't matter whether you ship Miyeon and Minnie or not, this is purely a story of a teenage girl who was being a bundle of nerves thinking how she should say hi to a new friend. The truth is Minnie didn't stop thinking about Miyeon ever since she knew Miyeon would come. She practiced saying a simple word "annyeong" in the back of her mind until the day she actually said "annyeong" to her one and only same-aged friend.
 Miyeon, on the other hand, seemed like she doesn't have much to say about their greeting day other than Minnie's legs are long. Until the day we learned about the Crispy Rolls:
 When I wrote the original post in Vietnamese, no one ever heard about how Minnie even took care of Miyeon's meal and made sure Miyeon would look pretty whenever Miyeon got to go out.
 Before Miyeon, Minnie was such a dark, scary and distant girl. No matter how much the girls tried to get close to their oldest sister, Minnie didn't care about anyone, later explained she was exhausted by classes all the time. It completely makes sense since Minnie is born to be a little princess in a rather wealthy royal family. (Moreover she's in her puberty.) Yet I feel sorry for Yuqi that Minnie used to behave as if she took Yuqi for granted:
 Minnie didn't (and doesn't) reply Yuqi's messages frequently. Minnie, a Thai shopaholic, let Yuqi carried 7 bags for her and didn't even bother to show Yuqi where to take the right bus carefully. Minnie cancelled her plans with Yuqi to go out with her Thai friend.
 Yuqi was not the only one who had to bear Minnie's puberty. Shuhua, or even Soojin and Soyeon admited that Minnie was so scary back then. They felt hopeless trying to get Minnie's attention. They all knew for real Minnie's a kind person, they love their oldest sister, they just couldn't understand what's inside Minnie's head.
 At the meantime, somewhere on the 3rd planet of the Solar System, there was a wild girl that's about to give herself the very last chance to become a singer. She's totally not very eager getting prepared for CUBE audition. Little did she know that very last piece of her recklessness would eventually lead her to where she belongs.
 (I'm so sorry if by the time you're reading this, you're no longer on the 3rd planet of the Solar System.)
 How likely it is to find a left-handed out there? A left-handed that's also born in 1997? And also talented? A natural-born vocalist? A girl who can play the piano has admiration for those who can play the guitar? A girl who can play the guitar is interested in learning how to play the piano?
 Above all, Miyeon changed grumpy careless Minnie without doing anything much, unlike those girls who had done many things in 3 years.
 Minnie admitted at first she didn't care about Miyeon, either, although she's asking for a same-aged friend to come for years and there the answer was. One day she woke up seeing Miyeon had nothing to eat but 2 pieces of Crispy Rolls. Suddenly she wondered: "That girl is of the same age as me. Should I take care of her?" Young Minnie didn't care much about any younger girls but she stopped to think about a same-aged friend. And not for the first time, but quite once in a while, Minne really took care of someone by waking up earlier and sparing some food for a friend in a bowl.
 How hard Minne's actually dying to have a friend? Like, the only thing that makes Miyeon different from the other girls is her being born in 1998. Sadly, Miyeon was far too wimpy to think she could fit in. The wild girl who's got the same personality type as Harley Quinn was scared of everyone while in fact, everyone included Soyeon was scared of her, too. Miyeon must have a dark history. "I used to live like a ghost in the dorm as if I didn't really walk the Earth. I went back and forth, woke up, went to sleep and woke up again..." Even if all the members were so friendly and caring.
 I'd like to write it like a fanfic: Somebody was waiting for Miyeon without knowing her existence. Something wrapped around Miyeon when she's all alone. Something convinced Miyeon to give her the last shot to pick up her guitar. Someone secretly watched her audition, praying she would make a pass, she would stay and she would open her heart to everyone in the same room.
 Minnie accidentally had a peek at that audition. She had a feeling that she and that guitar friend would meet each other again and much more to come.
 Now the girl who once got her younger sisters handled her coldness is driven mad by someone she wanted to have around. Miyeon has turned everyone's life upside down. Miyeon's changed Minnie's personality pretty much. They bicker so often. Every little violence Miyeon does is for it's time Minnie has to pay.
 I'd like to say Jo Miyeon is really Kim Minnie's karma. The moment she stopped by the audition room, she's going have it soon. The moment they actually met, it's a cruel summer.
